Katy Card Show

Katy is always a good buying show. The Merrell Center (the high school ISD basketball stadium) was packed on Saturday. As usual, the traffic slowed a bit Sunday, but that allows for us to work the room and deal with other vendors. Dalton helped Sunday as we swapped out boys Saturday night at dinner.

The weekend was headlined by two transactions. First, a $10K raw Shohei Ohtani rookie lot that we scooped up from another vendor Sunday morning and are sending off to PSA for grading. It's always a risk when buying to grade, and while I am getting better at card prepping, I have a long way to go. The cards in the lot were all in great condition, but that can also mean a PSA 8 versus a PSA 10. We now have a decent set up at home with desk magnifiers and all the tools, so we'll see which ones make sense sending in and which ones are better off being sold as raw.

Second, a huge trade involving my Victor Wembanyama Rookie Downtown PSA 10 for a lot of cards worth about $23K. The trade was going to a Wemby fan and we received what I felt were five liquid cards.

Update: this ended up being a trade I would like to have back, but it happens. Judge got hurt, Dart's market turned pre-National, and Maye's market to date has not recovered from the pre-Super Bowl hype. The one card that did help was the Caleb Williams Alter Ego, which was a key piece in a West Coast Card Show trade for a PSA 10 Jordan insert.

You never know what's going to make its way to the booth either — this time it was an ultra-rare Tom Brady PSA 10 Black Pandora Downtown that turned every head on the floor.
