Conroe Card Show

We were not sure what to make of this show. Sandwiched in between The National and The West Coast Card Show, our buying focus was going to be narrow and conservative. Unless we felt confident the card could be moved in Chicago, we were going to pass. We wanted as much liquidity as possible heading into The National.

This was the second show in a row that we had the fortunate spot of being right where you walked in. In all honesty, sandwiched between Anaheim and Chicago, I likely would have passed on this one if not for our booth spot. Nothing against the Conroe show, it just is a lot for both of us and it takes away a key weekend in between two long show trips.

Saturday ran wall-to-wall from the doors opening, with people stacked at our “Buying” banners most of the morning. We did come away with a few nice Kobe and LeBron cards which will sell nicely in Chicago, but overall the revenue did not match the crowds and booth spot.

Sunday was slow. I am not a fan of any form of wax anymore, but the combination of killing time and a new vendor with fair pricing had us buying a few hobby boxes. Immediately we were reminded why we don't rip wax, and we essentially threw away a couple thousand dollars.

Sunday's pace was rough on both of us, as the opportunity cost in the summer a few days before leaving for Chicago was largely wasted. Being sandwiched between Fanatics Fest, Dallas, West Coast and The National probably didn't help on the sports card side either. We will miss the next Conroe show over Labor Day weekend, as we'll be in Pasadena with Front Row.

We did have an opportunistic PC pickup of a Garrett Wilson auto helmet that a vendor was trying to move.
